Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
The verse highlights that extraordinary power and protection arise through divine grace and righteous purpose: a formidable weapon is not merely a tool of violence but a divinely sanctioned means to restrain arrogant, harmful forces that threaten order.
Kṛṣṇa (Vāsudeva) reminds the listener about a discus previously granted by Śiva (Vṛṣadhvaja). Śiva produced and bestowed it after a proud aquatic demon was slain, emphasizing the weapon’s fiery brilliance and irresistible might.
