मांसपरिवर्जन-प्रशंसा (Praise of Abstention from Meat) / Ethics of Ahiṃsā in Diet and Rite

द्विजेभ्यो वेदवृद्धेभ्य: प्रयतः सुसमाहित: । तेनापोहति धर्मात्मन्‌ दुष्कृतं कर्म पाण्डव

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |

dvijebhyo vedavṛddhebhyaḥ prayataḥ susamāhitaḥ |

tenāpohati dharmātman duṣkṛtaṃ karma pāṇḍava ||

Yudhiṣṭhira dit : «Ô homme de dharma, ô fils de Pāṇḍu ! Celui qui, discipliné et l’esprit parfaitement recueilli, offre la nourriture—acquise par la force de ses propres bras—aux brāhmanes savants, anciens dans la science des Veda, efface ainsi ses actes mauvais. Un don fondé sur la justice et sur la protection des sujets, plutôt que sur le pillage, devient un moyen de purification morale.»
