मानसतीर्थ-शौचप्रशंसा | Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
सदा द्वादशमासान् वै जुह्मानो जातवेदसम् | स्थानं वारुणमैन्द्रं च रौद्रं वाप्पधिगच्छति
bhīṣma uvāca | sadā dvādaśa-māsān vai juhvāno jātavedasam | sthānaṃ vāruṇam aindraṃ ca raudraṃ vāpy adhigacchati ||
Bhīṣma dit : Celui qui, durant douze mois entiers, verse sans relâche des oblations dans Jātavedas (le feu sacrificiel) atteint les demeures de Varuṇa et d’Indra, et aussi le monde de Rudra. L’enseignement souligne que le devoir du sacrifice (yajña), accompli avec constance et discipline, mène à de hautes destinées et à l’honneur parmi les dieux.
भीष्म उवाच
Steady, long-term performance of sacrificial duty—here, continual offerings into Agni for a full year—is presented as a powerful form of dharma that generates great merit, culminating in attainment of high divine realms (Varuṇa’s, Indra’s, and Rudra’s).
Bhīṣma is instructing about the fruits of ritual observance: he states that a person who maintains year-long oblations into the sacred fire (Jātavedas/Agni) reaches specific divine abodes associated with major deities.
