ययातेर्वानप्रस्थतपःस्वर्गारोहणम् | Yayāti’s Vānaprastha Austerities and Ascent to Heaven
(रहस्थेनां समाहूय न वर्दे्न च संस्पृशे: । वहस्व भार्या भद्रें ते यथाकाममवाप्स्यसि ।।) तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। इस शर्मिष्ठाको एकान्तमें बुलाकर न तो इससे बात करना और न इसके शरीरका स्पर्श ही करना। अब तुम विवाह करके इसे अपनी पत्नी बनाओ। इससे तुम्हें इच्छानुसार फलकी प्राप्ति होगी। वैशम्पायन उवाच एवमुक्तो ययातिस्तु शुक्र कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणम् । शास्त्रोक्तविधिना राजा विवाहमकरोच्छुभम्,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! शुक्राचार्यके ऐसा कहनेपर राजा ययातिने उनकी परिक्रमा की और शास्त्रोक्त विधिसे मंगलमय विवाह-कार्य सम्पन्न किया
rahasthenām samāhūya na vardēn ca samspṛśeḥ | vahasva bhāryām bhadre te yathākāmam avāpsyasi || evam ukto yayātis tu śukraṁ kṛtvā pradakṣiṇam | śāstroktavidhinā rājā vivāham akaroc chubham ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : «Même si tu la fais venir à l’écart, ne lui parle pas et ne touche pas son corps. Prends-la pour épouse ; que la bénédiction soit sur toi : par elle tu obtiendras les fruits que tu désires.» Ainsi instruit, le roi Yayāti fit la circumambulation de Śukra en signe de révérence et, selon les règles prescrites par les śāstras, accomplit dûment le rite nuptial de bon augure.
