समन्तपञ्चक-आख्यानम् तथा अक्षौहिणी-प्रमाणनिर्णयः

अध्याया: सप्ततिरज्ञैयास्तथा चाष्टौ प्रसंख्यया । श्लोकानां द्वे सहस्ने तु पजच शलोकशतानि च,श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणो! इस पर्वमें अध्यायोंकी संख्या अठहत्तर (७८) है और श्लोकोंकी संख्या दो हजार पाँच सौ ग्यारह (२,५११) बतायी गयी है। इसके पश्चात् महत्त्वपूर्ण वनपर्वका आरम्भ होता है
adhyāyāḥ saptatir ajñaiyās tathā cāṣṭau prasaṅkhyayā | ślokānāṁ dve sahasre tu pañca ślokaśatāni ca ||
Rāma dit : «Dans ce parvan, les chapitres se comptent comme soixante-dix plus huit — soixante-dix-huit en tout. Les vers sont donnés au nombre de deux mille cinq cents. Après cela commence le grand Livre de la Forêt (Vana-parvan).»
