Samantapañcaka Narrative and the Measure of an Akṣauhiṇī

Educational Q&A

Envy (amarṣa) at another’s success corrodes judgment and dharma, while public ridicule (avahāsa) inflames wounded pride; together they accelerate hostility and set the stage for greater adharma.

During a sacrificial occasion where the Pandavas’ grandeur is evident, Duryodhana becomes distressed and resentful; in the same setting, Bhima derides him on the assembly grounds, intensifying the antagonism between the houses.
