सनाम्नीं चोद्यतां भार्या गृह्लीयामिति तस्य हि । मनो निविष्टमभवज्जरत्कारोर्महात्मन:,उन महात्मा जरत्कारुका मन इस बातपर स्थिर हो गया था कि मेरे-जैसे नामवाली कन्या यदि उपलब्ध हो तो उसीको पत्नीरूपमें ग्रहण करूँ:
sanāmnīṁ codyatāṁ bhāryā gṛhlīyām iti tasya hi | mano niviṣṭam abhavaj jaratkāror mahātmanaḥ ||
Śaunaka dit : L’âme du grand Jaratkāru se fixa avec une résolution inébranlable : « Si l’on m’offre une jeune fille portant le même nom que moi, je la prendrai pour épouse. » Cette parole souligne une retenue délibérée, de nature quasi votive : le mariage n’est pas recherché pour le plaisir ni pour le rang, mais comme un devoir n’ayant lieu que sous une condition éthique précise et contraignante.
