The verse underscores the reality of natural and situational limits: some terrains are so perilous that even the most capable creatures cannot traverse them. Implicitly, it cautions against rash pursuit and highlights the need for discernment (knowing what is feasible) when acting in difficult circumstances.
Vaiśampāyana is describing a region marked by formidable natural obstacles—vast caves and inaccessible, dangerous stretches—emphasizing their extreme difficulty by stating that even birds cannot cross them, much less other animals.
