Suta Goswami (narrating a didactic instruction within the Linga Purana’s Shaiva teaching stream)
It frames worship as beginning inwardly: right reflection, understanding, mindful intention, and restrained speech purify the paśu so that external Linga-puja becomes effective rather than merely ritualistic.
By implication, Shiva as Pati is approached through consciousness and order (niyama): when thought, knowledge, will, and speech are aligned, the soul’s bondage (pāśa) loosens and awareness turns toward Shiva-tattva.
A yogic discipline of vāk-saṃyama (restraint of speech) and smṛti/chetanā (continuous mindful alertness), foundational to Pashupata-oriented self-purification before mantra-japa and puja.
