Suta Goswami (narrating the Linga Purana teaching to the Sages at Naimisharanya)
It establishes that Shiva is fundamentally aliṅga (beyond all signs), while the Linga functions as a sacred support for worship of the transcendent Parameśvara who becomes the cosmos.
Shiva is presented as Parameśvara (Pati): the seed-cause of manifestation (bījī) yet untouched by limiting attributes (aliṅgī), indicating transcendence along with sovereign creative power.
The verse points to contemplative worship (dhyāna) central to Pashupata Yoga—meditating on the formless Pati while using the Linga as an aid for steadiness and inner realization.
