Pour les vaiśyas fidèles à leur svadharma, est déclaré le séjour des Maruts. Pour ceux nés śūdras qui vivent par le service et l’assistance, est déclaré le séjour des Gandharvas.
Lord Kurma (Vishnu) instructing on varṇāśrama-dharma and karmic destinations
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Indirectly: it teaches that embodied beings reap results according to adherence to sva-dharma; the deeper Kurma Purana teaching is that such karmic stations are within saṃsāra, while realization of the Self (ātma-jñāna) transcends all allotted lokas.
No specific technique is named; the practice emphasized is karma-yoga in the form of disciplined performance of one’s ordained duty (sva-dharma) without deviation, which the Kurma Purana later aligns with purification needed for higher yoga and jñāna.
The verse itself is dharma-focused, but within the Kurma Purana’s Shaiva–Vaishnava synthesis it reflects a shared ethical foundation: righteous duty and self-discipline are presented as universally valid supports for devotion and liberation, whether oriented to Hari (Kurma/Vishnu) or Hara (Shiva).
