Sense-Discipline and Exclusive Refuge in Viṣṇu
Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: With Sadguru and true vairāgya, know tattva alone; by that knowledge attain mokṣa—enabled by the gracious favor of Vishnu and Lakshmi.
Vedantic Theme: Jnana supported by vairāgya and guru-upadeśa; īśvara-anugraha (Vishnu-Lakshmi prasāda) as indispensable for fruition; synthesis of jñāna and bhakti.
Application: Seek qualified guidance; cultivate dispassion through reflection on impermanence; practice śravaṇa-manana-nididhyāsana alongside devotional surrender to Vishnu and Lakshmi.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.28.146-147 (need for Hari-vārtā, satsanga, and burning ku-buddhi); Garuda Purana 3.29.1 (Vishnu alone as worship-worthy)
This verse states that attaining a true Guru enables correct realization of tattva (ultimate Reality), which directly leads to moksha when supported by dispassion.
It presents a clear sequence: meeting the Sadguru → cultivating authentic vairagya → realizing tattva alone → attaining moksha, ultimately by the grace (prasada) of Vishnu and Lakshmi.
Seek qualified guidance, practice detachment from transient pleasures, focus on truth-inquiry and ethical sincerity, and cultivate devotion that opens one to divine grace.
