Veṅkaṭeśa-Māhātmya: Varāha Prelude, Descent of Śeṣācala, Svāmipuṣkariṇī and the Network of Tīrthas
with Dāna-Lakṣaṇas
Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Bhakti is confirmed by its fruit—Hari’s pleasure—and is completed by dāna done with discernment to worthy recipients (Vaiṣṇavas, learned, exemplary dvijas).
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara-prasāda as the measure of right action; yajña-dāna-tapas as purifying when offered without doubt and with right recipient-selection (sattvika-dāna theme).
Application: Pair pilgrimage/devotion with charitable giving to genuinely virtuous and learned persons/institutions; prioritize integrity of recipient and intention over display.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
Type: tirtha
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.26.49 (Bhāgavata-śravaṇa and Kṛṣṇa-mantra); Garuda Purana 3.26.46-47 (tīrtha-snāna discipline)
This verse states that such dāna directly pleases Hari (Keshava), removing doubt about its spiritual efficacy—especially when given to worthy recipients like Vaiṣṇavas and learned brāhmaṇas.
In the Preta Kanda context, dāna is treated as a supportive act that generates merit and divine favor, strengthening the intended benefit of rites performed for the departed through proper, dharmic giving.
Give regularly and intentionally to qualified, ethical recipients—especially those devoted to dharma and learning—so that charity is not merely financial help but a spiritually aligned act that cultivates sattva and devotion.
