नाम द्वाविंशोध्यायः श्रीकृष्ण उवाच / सोमस्य पुत्री पूर्वसर्गे बभूव भार्या मदीया जाम्बवती मम प्रिया / तासां मध्ये ह्यधिका वीन्द्र किञ्चिद्रुद्रादिभ्यः पञ्चगुणैर्विहीना
nāma dvāviṃśodhyāyaḥ śrīkṛṣṇa uvāca / somasya putrī pūrvasarge babhūva bhāryā madīyā jāmbavatī mama priyā / tāsāṃ madhye hyadhikā vīndra kiñcidrudrādibhyaḥ pañcaguṇairvihīnā
Śrī Kṛṣṇa dit : «Dans une création antérieure, la fille de Soma fut Mon épouse — Jāmbavatī, chère à Mon cœur. Parmi elles, elle se distinguait tout particulièrement, ô Vīndra, le meilleur des oiseaux, car, sous un certain rapport, elle était exempte des cinq qualités associées à Rudra et aux autres divinités.»
