Concise Bhāgavata Account
ततो निष्क्रम्य लङ्काया यातुधान्य: सहस्रश: । मन्दोदर्या समं तत्र प्ररुदन्त्य उपाद्रवन् ॥ २४ ॥
tato niṣkramya laṅkāyā yātudhānyaḥ sahasraśaḥ mandodaryā samaṁ tatra prarudantya upādravan
Ensuite, des milliers de femmes rākṣasī sortirent de Laṅkā. Avec Mandodarī, l’épouse de Rāvaṇa, elles s’approchèrent en pleurant sans cesse des corps sans vie de Rāvaṇa et des autres rākṣasas, de leurs maris tombés au combat.
Mandodarī is presented as the chief queen of Rāvaṇa; in this verse she is seen with the women of Laṅkā, grieving and rushing out while crying.
The verse depicts the aftermath of calamity in Laṅkā—Mandodarī and many rākṣasī women emerge in anguish, indicating a great loss and upheaval connected to Rāvaṇa’s defeat.
Worldly power and security can collapse suddenly; the scene urges humility and detachment, and turning one’s shelter toward dharma and devotion rather than pride.
