Sāṅkhya Enumeration of Tattvas, Distinction of Puruṣa–Prakṛti, and the Mechanics of Birth and Death
evaṁ me puṇḍarīkākṣa mahāntaṁ saṁśayaṁ hṛdi chettum arhasi sarva-jña vacobhir naya-naipuṇaiḥ
Śrī Uddhava requests Lord Kṛṣṇa to clearly demonstrate the difference between the material body and the spirit soul.
This verse shows that sincere inquiry and receiving clear, well-reasoned instruction from the all-knowing Lord (or His representative) is the way to cut doubt from the heart.
Uddhava invokes Krishna’s divine, compassionate form—“lotus-eyed”—to express devotion and to seek merciful, clarifying guidance for his inner confusion.
Admit the doubt honestly, approach authentic spiritual guidance with humility (as Uddhava does), and seek clear teachings that lead to steady understanding and devotion.
