Kali-yuga Dynasties and the Degradation of Kingship
This verse states that after Nandivardhana, five kings of the Pradyotana line will rule, and their combined reign will last 138 years.
In Canto 12, Śukadeva summarizes the future course of Kali-yuga—its rulers and decline—so Parīkṣit can understand the age’s deterioration and fix his mind on devotion beyond temporary political power.
Even long reigns and royal glory are measured and temporary; the verse encourages detachment from worldly power and steadiness in bhakti as the lasting shelter in Kali-yuga.
