Kūrma Supports Mandara; Hālahala Appears; Śiva Becomes Nīlakaṇṭha
In this verse, Lord Śiva points out that a dreadful calamity has arisen for all beings—the Kālakūṭa poison that emerged from the churning of the Milk Ocean.
Seeing the poison appear and threaten all creatures, Śiva addresses Bhavānī to highlight the gravity of the danger before he undertakes the act of protecting the world.
It teaches alertness to collective danger and the dharmic impulse to protect others—recognizing crises clearly and responding with responsibility and compassion.
