Prelude to Samudra-manthana
निशाम्यैतत् सुरगणा महेन्द्रवरुणादय: । नाध्यगच्छन्स्वयं मन्त्रैर्मन्त्रयन्तो विनिश्चितम् ॥ १७ ॥ ततो ब्रह्मसभां जग्मुर्मेरोर्मूर्धनि सर्वश: । सर्वं विज्ञापयां चक्रु: प्रणता: परमेष्ठिने ॥ १८ ॥
niśāmyaitat sura-gaṇā mahendra-varuṇādayaḥ nādhyagacchan svayaṁ mantrair mantrayanto viniścitam
Śrī Śukadeva dit : Voyant cet état de choses, Indra, Varuṇa et les autres devas se consultèrent, mais ne purent, par leurs propres délibérations, trouver une solution certaine. Alors tous les devas se rassemblèrent et se rendirent au sommet du mont Sumeru, dans l’assemblée de Brahmā; là, ils se prosternèrent pour offrir leurs hommages à Paramēṣṭhī Brahmā et lui rapportèrent tous les événements survenus.
Because the situation was beyond their independent capacity; even after deliberation, they could not find a sure solution and needed higher guidance.
It teaches that human or celestial strategy has limits; when clarity does not arise, one should seek shelter of a higher, spiritually authoritative source.
Do your best deliberation, but if uncertainty persists, seek guidance from genuine spiritual teachers and scripture rather than relying only on ego-driven planning.
