Aditi’s Payo-vrata and Viṣṇu’s Promise to Appear as Her Son
Prelude to Vāmana
श्रीभगवानुवाच देवमातर्भवत्या मे विज्ञातं चिरकाङ्क्षितम् । यत् सपत्नैर्हृतश्रीणां च्यावितानां स्वधामत: ॥ १२ ॥
śrī-bhagavān uvāca deva-mātar bhavatyā me vijñātaṁ cira-kāṅkṣitam yat sapatnair hṛta-śrīṇāṁ cyāvitānāṁ sva-dhāmataḥ
Le Seigneur Suprême dit : « Ô mère des devas, J’ai déjà compris ton désir longtemps chéri : tu veux le bien de tes fils, dépouillés de leur opulence et chassés de leur demeure par leurs ennemis. »
The Supreme Personality of Godhead, being situated in everyone’s heart, and especially in the hearts of His devotees, is always ready to help devotees in adversity. Since He knows everything, He knows how things are to be adjusted, and He does the needful to relieve the suffering of His devotee.
In this verse, Lord Viṣṇu tells Aditi that He understands the devas’ plight—having lost their glory and been driven from their abode by their rivals—indicating His attentive protection and forthcoming intervention.
Aditi, the mother of the devas, had performed devotion and austerities seeking relief for her sons. Viṣṇu responds by acknowledging her long-held request and the injustice done to the devas, setting the stage for His plan to restore dharma.
Bring your genuine, long-standing concerns to the Lord with sincerity and steadiness; this verse reassures devotees that divine awareness and guidance are present even when one feels displaced or stripped of stability.
