Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Ayurveda","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Explains fetal orientation (abdominal region, back-facing) and asserts fetal awareness of its womb—used for classical obstetric teaching and moral reflection on prenatal sentience.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Description","entry_title":"Garbha-sthiti: abdominal placement, back-facing; womb-awareness doctrine","lookup_keywords":["udarabhaga","prishtha-abhimukha","garbha-sthiti","yoni","smriti"],"quick_summary":"The fetus is said to remain in the abdominal region with its back oriented outward. It is also asserted to ‘know’ the womb it inhabits, implying prenatal awareness."}

Concept: Continuity of awareness is implied even before birth; embodied consciousness is situated and context-aware.

Application: Encourages sattvic speech, music, and conduct around pregnancy, treating the fetus as a sentient participant rather than inert matter.

FAQs

Garbha-vidyā: it describes the foetus’ placement/orientation in the abdomen and asserts an innate awareness of the particular womb it inhabits.

It exemplifies the Purāṇa’s inclusion of medical-anatomical material (Ayurveda/obstetrics) alongside theology—cataloguing practical prenatal/embryological notions as part of its wide-ranging knowledge system.

By portraying life in the womb as conscious and ordered, it reinforces the Purāṇic view of embodied existence as karmically structured, encouraging mindful conduct and protective care for pregnancy as a dharmic responsibility.
