FAQs

It gives a procedural rule of vyavahāra (legal practice): who is disqualified as a witness due to bias or moral defect, and the exception allowing broader testimony in urgent violent crimes like theft and assault.

Beyond theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves Dharmaśāstra-style jurisprudence—standards of evidence, witness competence, and crime-categories—showing its coverage of statecraft and courtroom procedure.

By restricting biased testimony and permitting necessary witnesses in serious offenses, it supports dharma through truthful adjudication—reducing adharma arising from false evidence and protecting society from violent wrongdoing.
