Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Hṛdaya-bīja / Mūla-mantra phoneme set with tri-mātrā Praṇava","lookup_keywords":["hṛdaya-bīja","mūla-mantra","praṇava tri-mātrā","ha-kāra","varṇa-gaṇa"],"quick_summary":"A specific set of seed-syllables and the three-mātrā Oṃ are taught as the heart-seed for internal installation; in some ritual contexts the same set functions as the root-mantra for primary japa."}
Concept: Śabda as power: phonemes (varṇas) are not mere letters but operative śaktis; ‘heart’ and ‘root’ designations depend on ritual context (prayoga).
Application: In nyāsa, place the hṛdaya-bīja at the heart locus; in japa, treat the same as mūla-mantra when the paddhati specifies it, always prefaced/empowered by Oṃ as tri-mātrā praṇava.
Khanda Section: Mantra-vidhi (Tantric/Vaidika mantra classification and japa practice)

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A manuscript-like diagram showing Sanskrit phoneme clusters (la–va, ṣa, ca, ya, sā, ha) arranged around a central Oṃ marked ‘tri-mātrā’, with arrows indicating ‘hṛdaya-bīja’ and ‘mūla-mantra’ contextual usage.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural aesthetic applied to a sacred phoneme mandala: central Oṃ glowing, surrounding varṇa clusters in stylized script, temple-lamp ambiance, minimal figurative elements","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: central Oṃ in gold relief, surrounding syllable panels with gold borders, rich maroon background, ornamental floral motifs, devotional manuscript feel","mysore_prompt":"Mysore: didactic chart with clear Devanāgarī, central tri-mātrā Oṃ, labeled hṛdaya-bīja and mūla-mantra pathways, fine lines and soft colors","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature folio: elegant calligraphy of syllable groups around a central Oṃ, marginal annotations, delicate pigments and ruled borders, scholarly atmosphere"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: लवशषचयसाश् → लव + शष + चय + साः (visarga/sibilant assimilation in transmission); हकारश् → हकारः; मूलमन्त्रोऽथवा → मूलमन्त्रः + अथवा.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 96 (mantra-vidhi: bīja, praṇava, japa context)
It classifies specific syllabic groups (including hakāra and the trimātrā Praṇava) as functioning either as a hṛdaya-bīja (heart-seed) or, in certain applications, as the mūla-mantra (principal/root mantra) for ritual use such as japa and nyāsa.
By preserving a compact technical rule for mantra-structure—mapping phonetic syllable-sets to ritual roles (hṛdaya vs. mūla)—it demonstrates the Agni Purāṇa’s coverage of practical Tantric/Vaidika ritual technology alongside its many other disciplines.
Correct identification and deployment of the heart-seed or root-mantra is presented as enabling proper mantra-sādhana—supporting purification, steadiness of mind, and effective ritual invocation when performed according to rule.
