Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 120

Adhivāsana-vidhi

Procedure for Preliminary Consecration in Vāstu–Pratiṣṭhā / Īśāna-kalpa

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Śaiva liṅga-pūjā: perform mantra-nyāsa first on the piṇḍikā (base) and then on the liṅga to ritually ‘charge’ the pīṭha-vigraha with operative (kriyā) śakti.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Piṇḍikā–Liṅga Nyāsa with ‘Oṁ hrīṁ śāṅkari pūraya svāhā’","lookup_keywords":["nyāsa","piṇḍikā","liṅga-pūjā","hrīṁ","kriyā-śakti"],"quick_summary":"The mantra is placed by nyāsa on the pedestal-base first and then on the liṅga, establishing ritual efficacy (kriyā) in the pīṭha-form."}

Concept: Kriyā-śakti is invoked/established through ordered nyāsa on support (pīṭha) and symbol (liṅga).

Application: Maintain correct ritual order: ādhāra first, then ādhārya; treat the pedestal as an empowered locus, not a mere stand.

FAQs

It teaches nyāsa (ritual placement/installation of mantra-power) using the mantra “oṁ hrīṁ śāṅkari pūraya svāhā,” specifically assigning it to the piṇḍikā (base) and then to the liṅga to empower the pīṭha-vigraha.

It exemplifies the Agni Purana’s detailed coverage of practical worship-technology—mantra, nyāsa, and iconographic ritual sequencing—alongside its many other domains (law, polity, medicine, arts), showing it as a compendium of applied religious sciences.

By correctly performing nyāsa on the base and liṅga, the practitioner is understood to consecrate the sacred form, purify intention and action, and make the worship efficacious—linking ritual precision with inner sanctification and merit (puṇya).
