Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 13

Adhyāya 88 — निर्वाणदीक्षाकथनं

Teaching of the Nirvāṇa-Initiation

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Oṃ Hāṃ Hūṃ Haṃ Phaṭ: Praveśa and Caitanya-Vibhāga for Śastra-Pāśa","lookup_keywords":["oṃ hāṃ hūṃ haṃ phaṭ","caitanya","śastra","pāśa","Jyeṣṭhā-āṅkuśa mudrā"],"quick_summary":"Use the bīja-mantra to cause power to enter the implement, then distribute/activate caitanya within it; empower the weapon together with the noose using the Jyeṣṭhā-Āṅkuśa mudrā."}

Weapon Type: Weapon/implement (śastra) with pāśa (noose) as controlled binding adjunct

Concept: Mantra-śakti is installed and made operative through praveśa, caitanya-āropa, and mudrā—power must be awakened and governed (āṅkuśa/pāśa symbolism).

Application: In tantric pūjā, treat tools/weapons as ritually ‘living’ only after proper mantra and mudrā; pair activation with restraint/command gestures to avoid ritual ‘leakage’ or instability.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi / Mantra-tantra (Mudrā-nyāsa and weapon-mantra applications)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A practitioner holds a ritual weapon/implement and a noose, reciting the bīja-mantra; subtle energy is shown entering and ‘lighting up’ the implement while the hand forms an āṅkuśa mudrā.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, dynamic yet sacred: practitioner before a lamp-lit altar, weapon and pāśa depicted, glowing mantra syllables entering the implement, hand in goad mudrā, bold outlines and earthy tones","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, central ritual implement with gold radiance, practitioner forming āṅkuśa mudrā, stylized mantra syllables around, gold foil emphasizing energized weapon and ornaments","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, technical illustration: close-up of hand mudrā (āṅkuśa), weapon and pāśa placement, subtle aura indicating caitanya activation, clean composition and fine detailing","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, refined interior ritual scene with detailed weapon and cord/noose, calligraphic mantra motifs, practitioner’s precise hand gesture, delicate shading and textiles"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"intense","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"fast","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: cāpyanenaiva = ca + api + anena + eva; vibhajettataḥ = vibhajet + tataḥ; jyeṣṭhayāṅkuśamudrayā = jyeṣṭhayā + aṅkuśa-mudrayā.

FAQs

It teaches a mantra-driven procedure for energizing an implement/weapon: using bīja syllables to ‘enter’ and awaken caitanya (operative power) in the weapon, and sealing/controlling it through the Āṅkuśa mudrā, with the pāśa (noose) as a binding adjunct.

Beyond mythic narration, the Agni Purana preserves applied ritual technology—mantra, mudrā, and consecration of instruments—showing how Purāṇic literature also functions as a compendium of practical liturgy and esoteric procedure.

The instruction frames power as sanctified and controlled: awakening ‘caitanya’ through mantra and restraining it via mudrā implies disciplined, dharmic use of force—purifying intent and preventing uncontrolled or harmful deployment.
