Chapter 83 — निर्वाणदीक्षाकथनम्
Description of the Nirvāṇa Initiation
Lord Agni (in discourse to sage Vasiṣṭha, the typical frame of the Agni Purāṇa)

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Pratiṣṭhā: śukla-yantra-tāḍana and tri-mantra + eka-mantra integration","lookup_keywords":["pratiṣṭhā","mantra-nyāsa","śukla-yantra","tāḍana","viṣaya-kāraṇa-hari"],"quick_summary":"In installation rites, mantras are structured as a triad plus an additional integrating mantra, explicitly folding in object, cause, and Hari; the white yantra is ritually struck/energized as part of activation and pacification."}
Concept: Mantra is made operative by correct nyāsa, semantic embedding (viṣaya–kāraṇa), and īśvara-sānnidhya (Hari) within a consecratory procedure.
Application: Designing a consistent pratiṣṭhā sequence: choose bīja/mantras, perform nyāsa, energize yantra, and stabilize the installation through śānti-oriented mantra framing.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Pratiṣṭhā and Mantra-nyāsa / Yantra-vidhi)

Secondary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A ritual specialist performs pratiṣṭhā: inscribing a white yantra on a clean altar, placing ritual thread/sūtra, reciting Oṃ hāṃ hauṃ hoṃ, and striking/energizing the yantra while invoking Hari as the indwelling support.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, priest in white dhoti before a sanctum-like altar, luminous white yantra on floor, subtle red/ochre background, stylized flames and lotus motifs, Hari’s presence as a faint blue aura, detailed linework, sacred geometry emphasized.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, gold-leaf highlights on the yantra borders and ritual vessels, priest performing tāḍana with a darbha bundle, Viṣṇu/Hari icon as small inset with ornate arch, rich reds and greens, heavy ornamentation.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clean instructional composition: labeled ritual items (yantra, sūtra, japa-mālā), priest touching/striking the white yantra, soft pastel palette, fine gesso detailing, calm consecration atmosphere.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtly atelier depiction of a consecration rite: geometric yantra on carpet, meticulous objects (conch, lamp, incense), calligraphic mantra band, delicate shading, architectural niche behind."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: śāntyatītakalāpāśāyeti → śānti-atīta-kalā-pāśāya iti; trayamekañca → trayam ekam ca; śuklayāntāḍanādikaṃ → śukla-yānta-āḍana-ādikam (compound segmentation approximate due to manuscript uncertainty).
Related Themes: Agni Purana 83 (pratiṣṭhā/nyāsa/yantra-vidhi context)
It prescribes the use of specific bīja-mantras and a structured set of mantras (three plus one), explicitly integrating the ritual object, its causal principle, and Hari (Viṣṇu), along with yantra-related energizing actions (e.g., tāḍana) during pratiṣṭhā (installation consecration).
It exemplifies the Purāṇa’s technical coverage of applied ritual science—mantra selection, theological integration (Hari), and practical yantra-handling—showing how the text functions as a manual for consecration rites alongside its broader mythic and doctrinal material.
By employing pacificatory mantras to “loosen bonds” (pāśa) and installing the deity with properly integrated mantras and yantra-rites, the act is framed as purification and stabilization of sacred presence, supporting merit (puṇya) and ritual efficacy (siddhi).
