Lord Agni (traditional Agni Purana narrator) addressing the sage Vasiṣṭha

Concept: Adhikāra arises from dīkṣā; ritual knowledge (āgama-jñāna) is not merely learned but conferred through initiation.
Application: Establish competency gates in training: only after samaya-dīkṣā should a student be taught/allowed to perform vahni-homa per Āgamic paddhati; document pāṭha-variants used in the lineage manual.

It states that through samaya-dīkṣā the initiand becomes eligible to learn and apply Āgamic knowledge related to fire rites—especially vahni-homa (fire oblations).
By documenting initiation protocols and eligibility for Āgamic ritual science, it shows the Purana functioning as a practical manual—preserving procedural religion alongside theology and other disciplines.
Initiation is presented as a purifier and authorizer: it transforms the disciple into a ritually competent person whose homa practice is valid and spiritually efficacious within the Āgamic framework.
