Chapter 81 — समयदीक्षाविधानम्
Procedure for Samaya Initiation

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Homa completion and spatial arrangement: perform 100 ghee-mantra oblations, then pūrṇāhuti; place the maṇḍala east of the kuṇḍa or centrally between Śambhu (Śiva) and the kumbha (kalasha).","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Śata-āhuti with ajya, pūrṇāhuti, and maṇḍala placement relative to kuṇḍa–Śambhu–kumbha","lookup_keywords":["śata-homa","ājya","pūrṇāhuti","maṇḍala-sthāpana","kumbha"],"quick_summary":"After 100 ghee-accompanied mantra offerings, conclude with pūrṇāhuti; set the maṇḍala to the east of the fire-pit or centrally between the Śiva-seat and the ritual water-pot."}
Concept: Pūrṇatā (completion) through number, offering, and geometry: śata-āhuti culminates in pūrṇāhuti, while maṇḍala placement harmonizes deity, element (fire), and sanctified water (kumbha).
Application: When designing a homa space, fix the maṇḍala position relative to kuṇḍa and kalasha; treat pūrṇāhuti as the formal closure sealing the rite.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Homa, Mandala, Kalasha-sthapana)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A completed homa: the priest has performed 100 ghee offerings and now performs pūrṇāhuti; the maṇḍala is shown placed east of the kuṇḍa or centrally between a Śiva locus (Śambhu) and a decorated kumbha (kalasha).","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, bright homa fire with repeated offerings implied by stacked ladles/bowls, final pūrṇāhuti moment, maṇḍala drawn east of kuṇḍa, Śambhu symbol (liṅga or Śiva-seat) and ornate kumbha flanking center","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, gold-leaf flames and haloed pūrṇāhuti vessel, richly decorated kalasha with coconut and leaves, maṇḍala geometric design, subtle Śiva emblem, heavy ornamental frame","mysore_prompt":"Mysore, schematic clarity: kuṇḍa, east-marked maṇḍala placement option, alternate central placement between Śambhu and kumbha, priest performing pūrṇāhuti; labeled directional arrows","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, refined ritual courtyard, priest offering a large final oblation, detailed kalasha and floor maṇḍala, Śiva emblem nearby, balanced symmetrical composition"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: sājyaṃ → sa-ājyam; yathāvidhi → yathā-vidhi (avyayībhāva); śambhukumbhayoḥ treated as dvandva dual.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 81 (homa counts, pūrṇāhuti, maṇḍala and kalaśa-sthāpana context)
It prescribes a homa sequence: perform one hundred ghee-offerings with mantra recitation, then complete the rite with the pūrṇāhuti, and specifies where the maṇḍala should be positioned relative to the kuṇḍa and the Śiva/kumbha setup.
It records precise procedural details of domestic/temple ritual technology—counted mantra-oblation cycles, the formal final oblation (pūrṇāhuti), and spatial layout rules (maṇḍala, kuṇḍa, kumbha)—illustrating the Purana’s role as a practical manual alongside theology.
Completing the homa with the properly performed pūrṇāhuti and correct ritual arrangement is taught as ensuring the rite’s wholeness (pūrṇatā), strengthening mantra efficacy, and securing purificatory merit through disciplined observance (vidhi).
