Chapter 81 — समयदीक्षाविधानम्
Procedure for Samaya Initiation

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Understanding nirādhārā as a mode of Śakti recognized by intense śaktinipāta, and applying the guru-mūrti principle: Śakti operates through the teacher-form and graded modalities (māyā/tīvra etc.) in initiation and awakening.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Tīvra-śaktinipāta and Ācārya-mūrti (Nirādhārā Śakti)","lookup_keywords":["tivra-shaktinipata","niradhara","acarya-murti","maya","shakti-bheda"],"quick_summary":"Nirādhārā is identified where intense descent of power awakens the seeker without reliance on supports. Śakti assumes the guru’s form and functions through graded modes (māyā/tīvra etc.), explaining differing initiation outcomes."}
Concept: Śaktipāta (descent of power) is the decisive catalyst; the guru is not merely a person but Śakti’s operative form, and experiences differ by graded intensity and by the veil of māyā.
Application: In diksha and guidance, evaluate the seeker’s śaktipāta intensity; emphasize guru-sevā, mantra, and stabilization practices appropriate to the grade, avoiding forcing ‘supportless’ methods without sufficient descent.
Khanda Section: Isana-kalpa / Tantra (Mantra–Shakti classifications and guru-murti application)

Sandhi Resolution Notes: निराधारेति = निराधारा + इति; आचार्यमूर्तिमास्थाय = आचार्यमूर्तिम् + आस्थाय; मायातीव्रादिभेदया = माया + तीव्र + आदि + भेदया.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 81 (śakti and diksha gradations)
It defines a Tantric typology of Śakti: when intense śakti descends (śakti-nipāta), the power is termed “Nirādhārā,” and it is taught to manifest through the guru-form (ācārya-mūrti) with graded modes such as māyā and tīvra.
Alongside dharma, polity, and arts, the Agni Purana also catalogs specialized Tantric frameworks—here, a technical classification of spiritual power/initiatory descent and its operational modes—showing its compendium-style coverage of ritual and esoteric doctrine.
It emphasizes that transformative spiritual force is mediated through the guru-principle; recognizing the grade and mode of śakti helps align practice with proper initiation and discipline, supporting purification and steady progress rather than misdirected ritual effort.
