Chapter 81 —
Procedure for Samaya Initiation

Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on mantra-śakti plus dik-rakṣā (guarding the quarters) through authorized command (ājñā) and correct handling of the kalasha.
Application: Before abhiṣeka/kalasha rites, explicitly perform dikpāla-samarpana/ājñā and maintain disciplined kumbha-handling to prevent ritual ‘leakage’ (rakṣā-bhaṅga).
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Śaiva abhiṣeka/kalasha-dhāraṇa and protective rite)

Related Themes: Agni Purana 81 (Pūjā-vidhi: kalasha, nyāsa, astravidhi)
It gives a procedural step in Śaiva ritual: recite the mūla-mantra, formally charge the Dikpālas with protective oversight, and then hold/carry the ritual kumbha as prescribed.
It exemplifies the text’s manual-like coverage of practical worship technology—mantra-prayoga, directional guardian invocation, and kalasha handling—showing the Purāṇa as a compendium of applied ritual method, not only mythology.
By acting under Śiva’s ājñā and invoking the Lokapālas for protection, the rite is treated as safeguarded and ritually intact, supporting purity (śuddhi), uninterrupted worship, and the intended merit (puṇya) of the observance.
