FAQs

It gives precise iconographic placement for Viṣṇu’s emblems—Cakra on the upper left and Pāñcajanya below—and prescribes accompanying parikara-deities (Śrī, Puṣṭi, Bala, Bhadrā) to be included in the sacred depiction or installation.

Beyond mythology, the Agni Purana functions as a practical manual: it codifies temple-art standards (pratimā-lakṣaṇa), ritual arrangement, and the theology of divine attributes through concrete, implementable instructions for images and worship.

Correctly arranging Viṣṇu’s emblems and attendant śaktis is treated as preserving sacred order (dharma) in worship; faithful iconographic accuracy supports auspiciousness (śrī/bhadra), nourishment (puṣṭi), and strength (bala) for the devotee and the consecrated space.
