FAQs

This verse imparts niti-shastra/lexical knowledge: precise Sanskrit designations for moral faults (miserliness, pettiness, pride) and for virtuous disposition (śubhaṃyuḥ), useful for ethical instruction and text interpretation.

By cataloging technical vocabulary for character-types and moral psychology, it functions like a compact thesaurus of dharmic ethics—showing the Agni Purana’s wide scope beyond ritual into language, conduct, and governance-related moral education.

It distinguishes blameworthy dispositions (linked to greed and ego) from auspicious-mindedness (śubhaṃyuḥ), guiding conduct toward merit (puṇya) through humility, generosity, and cultivated virtue.
