Related Themes: Agni Purana 365.43 (guild context); Agni Purana 365.45 (livelihood definitions)
It transmits vocational taxonomy—naming specific artisan and service professions (painting, dyeing, metalwork, carpentry, construction, goldsmithing, barbering) as part of dharma-oriented social classification rather than a ritual procedure.
By cataloguing professions and crafts, it preserves socio-economic knowledge alongside theology and ritual—showing the Purana’s broad scope across governance (rajadharma), livelihoods (vṛtti), and traditional crafts (śilpa).
It frames livelihood as a dharmic category: recognizing work and craft as socially regulated duties, implying that right conduct and honest livelihood support order (dharma) and reduce karmic disorder.
