FAQs

Ayurvedic dravya-jñāna: it teaches standardized synonymy for key substances—āranāla/kulmāṣa (fermented gruel), hiṅgu (asafoetida) as vāhlīka/rāmaṭha, haridrā (turmeric) as niśā/pītā/strī, and khaṇḍa as a form of phāṇita (molasses/jaggery syrup).

It functions like an Ayurvedic glossary (nighaṇṭu), preserving multiple regional/technical names for the same drug or food-preparation—useful for physicians, ritual cooks, and compilers who must recognize substances across traditions.

Indirectly, accurate identification of substances supports correct performance of rites and proper therapeutic use; correctness (yathā-vidhi) is traditionally linked with purity, efficacy, and avoidance of doṣa (fault) in both ritual and healing contexts.
