Bhuvanakośa: Cosmic Geography and Cosmological Measures
Lord Agni (narrating to Sage Vasiṣṭha in the Agni Purana’s discourse frame)

This verse imparts cosmographical knowledge (loka-vibhāga): the relative placement and measured distances of higher realms (Maharloka and the Jana-region) from Dhruva, and the classes of beings (kalpa-vāsins, Kumāras) who reside there.
It exemplifies the Agni Purana’s encyclopedic scope by cataloging Puranic astronomy/cosmology—mapping realms, distances, and inhabitants—alongside its other domains (ritual, polity, medicine, arts), thereby functioning as a compendium of traditional knowledge systems.
By situating the Kumāras and kalpa-enduring sages in higher lokas, the verse underscores a hierarchy of purity and longevity attained through tapas and jñāna, encouraging aspiration toward disciplined spiritual practice that aligns one with higher, sattvic realms.
