ity āgneye mahāpurāṇe prayāgamāhātmyaṃ nāma ekādaśādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ atha dvādaśādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ vārāṇasīmāhātmyam agnir uvāca vārāṇasī paraṃ tīrthaṃ gauryai prāha maheśvaraḥ bhuktimuktipradaṃ puṇyaṃ vasatāṃ gṛṇatāṃ hariṃ
Ainsi, dans l’Agni Mahāpurāṇa s’achève le chapitre 112 intitulé « La grandeur de Prayāga ». Commence maintenant le chapitre 113, « La grandeur de Vārāṇasī ». Agni dit : « Vārāṇasī est le tīrtha suprême ; Maheśvara l’a déclaré à Gaurī.
