Related Themes: Agni Purana 107 (Svāyambhuva-sarga genealogical continuation)
This verse primarily transmits vamsha-vidya (genealogical knowledge): the ordered succession of named descendants, preserving dynastic memory rather than prescribing a ritual procedure.
By cataloguing lineages and descendants (with noted manuscript variants), it functions like a historical index—one of the Agni Purana’s encyclopedic modes alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts.
Reciting and preserving ancestral lineages is traditionally treated as dharmic remembrance (smṛti) that supports śrāddha-oriented ancestral continuity and reinforces the Purana’s role in transmitting sacred history.
