General Description of the Course of Hell / Naraka-gati

The verse teaches that impurity (mala) is not erased by mere wish; it is purified through a process—like metal refined by fire—where sin is exhausted and the soul faces the precise results of karma, moving toward clarity and liberation under Shiva’s governing order.
Linga-worship of Saguna Shiva is traditionally described as a purifying discipline: devotion, mantra, and right conduct ‘heat’ the inner being, weakening malas and hastening pāpa-kṣaya, so karmic burdens reduce and the seeker becomes fit for Shiva’s grace.
Adopt a purification-focused sādhana: daily japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), wearing Rudrākṣa with discipline, and applying Tripuṇḍra-bhasma as a reminder of burning impurities—paired with ethical living to reduce karmic residue.
