Umāyāḥ Kriyāyoga-Rahasya
The Esoteric Teaching on Umā’s Kriyāyoga
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse cites a royal exemplar (Suratha) whose lost sovereignty is restored through Navarātra-vrata, illustrating Devī’s prasāda as worldly anugraha that supports dharma.
Significance: Models the phala-śruti pattern: vrata + bhakti yields restoration of dharma and legitimate kingship; encourages Navarātra observance for protection and reinstatement of order.
Shakti Form: Durgā
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that disciplined vrata performed with faith restores dharma and removes obstacles; when devotion becomes steady, grace manifests even in worldly order, aligning the devotee with righteous sovereignty and inner stability.
Navarātra observance in the Purāṇic setting implies structured saguna-upāsanā—worship through form, ritual, and vow—by which the devotee’s mind is purified; such purity becomes a fit vessel for Shiva’s anugraha (grace), often expressed as restoration of rightful order.
Undertake a vrata with purity and restraint—daily worship, japa (such as the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and regulated conduct—so the mind becomes focused and receptive to grace; the emphasis is on consistency across the vow’s duration.
