En el centro del recipiente de cocción, deben mantenerse separados el alimento y el agua. El agua ha de colocarse sobre el fuego, y esa ofrenda de alimento cocido debe ponerse sobre el agua.
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s ritual injunctions as preserved in the Umāsaṃhitā)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Encodes ritual order and purity in offering-preparation; correct sequencing (fire–water–food) symbolizes containment of heat/impulse and stabilization of mind for worship.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It teaches purity and order in offering (naivedya): disciplined preparation becomes an outer expression of inner śuddhi (purification), supporting devotion to Pati (Shiva) with a steady, regulated mind.
In Saguna Shiva worship, the Linga is honored through upacāras like naivedya; this verse gives practical guidance so the offering is prepared correctly and respectfully, aligning the devotee’s action with reverence for Shiva’s manifest presence.
It suggests careful naivedya preparation and orderly arrangement; while doing so, one may maintain japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to keep attention anchored in Shiva-bhakti.
