It teaches śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): when worldly力量 and fear intensify, the devotee turns inward to remember Pati—Lord Śiva—whose grace removes bondage and steadies the mind.
Remembering “svāminam śivam” points to Saguna-upāsanā—personal devotion to Śiva as the protective Lord; such remembrance is the inner core of Linga worship, where the devotee centers awareness on Śiva’s presence beyond fear.
Smaraṇa and japa: in distress, repeat the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with focused remembrance of Śiva; this is the immediate sādhana implied by “sasmāra śivam.”
