Bāṇāsura Receives Gaṇapatya; Genealogical Prelude
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
The verse establishes the Daitya lineage, preparing the narrative contrast between asuric power and dharmic devotion—especially through Prahrāda—showing that spiritual merit (bhakti and dharma) can arise even within hostile lineages.
While this specific verse is genealogical, it frames the wider Purāṇic theme that worldly might and birth do not grant liberation; turning toward Saguna Shiva through devotion and right conduct is what purifies lineage and leads the soul toward grace.
No direct ritual is prescribed in this line; the takeaway is to cultivate sattva through bhakti—practically expressed in japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and daily reverence to Shiva with humility rather than pride.
