Preparations for Girijā’s Auspicious Journey and the Teaching on Pātivratya

The verse teaches that adharmic means—like kṛtyā (harmful rites) and persistent envy—return as suffering. From a Shaiva Siddhanta view, impurity (mala) and binding action (karma) thicken when one weaponizes speech or harbors jealousy, obstructing inner purity needed for Shiva-bhakti and grace.
Linga/Saguna Shiva worship emphasizes purification of vāc (speech), manas (mind), and bhāva (intention). This verse contrasts that path with manipulative rites and envy; true devotion approaches Shiva with sincerity, non-violence, and inner restraint rather than coercion.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with a vow of truthful, non-harmful speech and deliberate cultivation of adveṣa (non-envy). If doing Mahāśivarātri vrata, add self-audit of speech and thoughts, offering them to Shiva as inner worship.
