It links mantra-japa with ethical purification: true worship requires a vigilant mind and an “abhaya” resolve—removing fear and harm from one’s presence—so the sādhaka becomes fit for Shiva’s grace and liberation.
In Saguna Shiva worship (including Linga-pūjā), mantra is not merely sound; it must be sealed by inner discipline and compassionate intent. The vow of fearlessness toward all beings aligns the devotee’s conduct with Shiva’s auspiciousness (śivattva).
Focused japa of the prescribed mantras with mindful attention, followed by an abhaya-saṅkalpa (“may all beings be safe from me”), optionally concluded with a svāhā utterance as a mantric seal.
