The Awakening of Kumbhakarna
सयूपाक्ष्वचश्श्रुत्वाभ्रातुर्युधिपराभवम् ।कुम्भकर्णोविवृत्ताक्षोयूपाक्षमिदमब्रवीत् ।।।।
sa yūpākṣavacaḥ śrutvā bhrātur yudhi parābhavam |kumbhakarṇo vivṛttākṣo yūpākṣam idam abravīt ||
Al escuchar las palabras de Yūpākṣa sobre la derrota de su hermano en la batalla, Kumbhakarṇa, con los ojos desorbitados por la furia, habló así a Yūpākṣa.
On hearing the words of Yupaksha, regarding the insult of his brother Kumbhakarna said this rolling his eyes.
A dharmic response to counsel requires composure; anger that distorts judgment is shown as a prelude to destructive decisions.
After warnings about Rāma, Kumbhakarṇa reacts strongly, preparing to answer and to act in the war.
By contrast, the verse highlights the danger of wrath (krodha) overpowering discernment (viveka).
