Ravana’s Funeral Rites and the Ethics of Post-War Conduct
अप्रियामिवोपसंगृह्यकिंशेषेरणमेदिनीम् ।।।।अप्रियामिवकस्माच्छमांनेच्छस्यभिभाषितुम् ।
apriyām ivopasaṅgṛhya kiṁ śeṣe raṇamedinīm |
apriyām iva kasmāc cha māṁ necchasy abhibhāṣitum ||
¿Por qué yaces en el campo de batalla, abrazando la tierra como si fuera una amada? ¿Y por qué, como si yo no te fuera querida, no deseas responderme?
"You are lying in the battlefield embracing it as if it is a loved one. Why are you not willing to answer me?"
Dharma recognizes the truth of mortality; grief seeks dialogue, but Satya requires accepting silence where life has ended.
Mandodarī addresses the fallen Rāvaṇa, unable to accept his stillness, speaking as though he might reply.
