FAQs

It declares the tīrtha-māhātmya (greatness) of the Gaṅgā: placing or immersing one’s mortal remains in the Gaṅgā yields measurable heavenly honor, emphasizing the purifying and liberating power attributed to this sacred river.

Though phrased as a result (phala) of a rite, it supports bhakti by directing faith toward a Viṣṇu-sambandhī tīrtha (the Gaṅgā, celebrated in Vaiṣṇava tradition); reverent surrender to sacred means—tīrtha, nāma, and dharma—becomes an expression of devotion.

Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied: it points to antyeṣṭi/śrāddha-associated practice of asthi-visarjana in a tīrtha, where correct rite and place are taught as producing specific phala.
