Pātivratya-kathana
The Narrative of the Pativrata
यो भार्यां प्रणतां पापोनानुमन्येत गर्वितः । सोऽशुभानि समाप्नोति जन्मानि दश पंच च ॥ ६९ ॥
yo bhāryāṃ praṇatāṃ pāponānumanyeta garvitaḥ | so'śubhāni samāpnoti janmāni daśa paṃca ca || 69 ||
Aquel hombre pecador y soberbio que no acoge ni honra a su esposa cuando ella se inclina con humildad, incurre en infortunios y alcanza diez y cinco—es decir, quince—nacimientos inauspiciosos.
Narada (instructional puranic discourse; traditional dialogue setting with Sanatkumara context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta (peace)
Secondary Rasa: raudra (anger)
It teaches that dharma begins in the home: arrogance and contempt toward a devoted spouse is adharma, producing heavy karmic demerit and repeated inauspicious rebirths.
Bhakti is not only ritual praise of Vishnu but also humility and righteous conduct; honoring those who support one’s dharmic life (such as a faithful wife) is part of living devotion.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana or Jyotisha) is taught here; the practical takeaway is sadachara—ethical discipline in grihastha life, which supports all ritual and spiritual practice.
