Chapter 58: Arjuna’s Deployment of the Indra-Weapon
अहं तु प्रद्वते पूर्व प्रहरिष्पामि तेडनघ । इति मे वर्तते बुद्धिस्तद् भवान् कर्तुमहति
ahaṃ tu pradvatē pūrvaṃ prahariṣyāmi te 'nagha | iti me vartate buddhis tad bhavān kartum arhati ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: “Pero sólo te atacaré después de que tú hayas atacado primero, oh intachable. Tal es la resolución que permanece en mi mente; por tanto, que tu honor haga lo que corresponde: hiéreme tú primero.” La frase presenta el combate no como agresión ciega, sino como una contención ética autoimpuesta: el hablante se niega a iniciar la violencia contra un adversario venerado, aun en una batalla inevitable.
