Lomaśa’s Counsel and the Resolve for Pilgrimage
The verse teaches that the presence of Nārāyaṇa sanctifies a place absolutely: where the eternal Supreme Self is, the entirety of sacred merit—equivalent to all tīrthas and shrines—is present. Devotion to the divine source is presented as the highest, most comprehensive form of pilgrimage and worship.
Dhaumya is instructing his listeners by praising Nārāyaṇa’s all-pervading sanctity. He frames a theological point within the Vana Parva’s pilgrimage-and-austerity atmosphere: rather than seeking holiness only by traveling, one recognizes that the Lord’s abode (and remembrance) contains the essence of all holy places.
